Twenty years ago the accumulation of skills, knowledge and experience (‘horizontal development’) was sufficient for business success. Today, it’s not. 4D Leadership – Competitive Advantage Through Vertical Leadership Development, offers a new approach of ‘vertical development’.See Other Books
Complete Coherence is committed to being at the cutting edge of leadership and high performance development.
We don’t just talk about human performance, we are actively involved in a number of important research collaborations with scientists around the world. Our research collaborations are investigating how to improve performance in a variety of different organisational, sporting and clinical settings.
Our research projects range from observational studies that explore the biological correlates of different performance states to intervention studies that determine whether we can improve different aspects of performance and human development. We use these insights to inform and update our coaching methods and practices. We also socialise our findings to a wider audience in pursuit of our vision to provide thought leadership and develop enlightened leaders in all walks of life.
This is an ongoing research project with a consortium of not-for-profit organisations that involves the development of a video game prototype that uses biofeedback technology. It is aimed at teenagers and is designed to build habits that improve their long-term mental and emotional well being. The project is the culmination of a 12 year desire to establish the new field of bio-gaming. We are currently conducting an experimental school-based trial of our biofeedback software embedded in a game. We will track the students’ psychological and physiological well-being over the course of a six week period as they regularly engage in bio-gaming.
We were fortunate enough to work closely with Mathieu Ricard and other members of the Dalai Lama’s Tibetan community to explore the biological basis of different types of meditative practice. The project involved monitoring the monks’ physiology for 24 hours as they engaged in different types of mindfulness and only slept for four hours. We are currently in the process of writing up our findings and intend to submit three papers to peer-reviewed scientific journals for publication.
It is widely known that performance and healthy functioning require great sleep. It is not the quantity of sleep that really matters but the quality. We are exploring how to measure the effectiveness of sleep quality in individuals known to suffer with sleep disturbances. We will then explore how to step change the quality of sleep using a number of simple techniques and see if we can produce a measurable improvement in sleep quality that impacts the daytime performance of the individuals involved in the study. We are collaborating on this project with one of the leading sleep scientists in the world.
We are conducting ongoing research into the evolving landscape of women in modern leadership roles. Using a multi-disciplinary research agenda, we are tracking both psychological and physiological measurements as well as social network analysis to understand how women in business tend to develop as well as the perceptions and challenges they face.
Social network analysis has paved the way to measure and understand previously immeasurable phenomena. Complete Coherence is incorporating the latest advances in research to bring such insights to top-level management. We are researching how functional networks can augment or diminish a firm’s communicative efficiency, how key players can help shape culture and drive change and how different levels of psychological development can impact leadership networks.
